We have a saying in Scouting… “Every Scout deserves a trained leader”… and Pack 170 leaders take that to heart with 100% of our leaders YPT-trained (Youth Protection Training) and 100% position-trained for yet another year in a row.

And University of Scouting is an important part of our commitment to our Scouts. It was a cold day, a subfreezing day, on January 20th, 2024 but that did not deter the leaders of Pack 170. Pictured above are 6 Pack 170 leaders at University of Scouting. Missing from the picture is Chartered Organization Representative, Nick Rietsch, who was also Dean of Scouts BSA. All in all, 7 leaders from the pack, including the Pack Key 3 (Cubmaster Amber, Committee Chair Shannan, and COR Nick), were staff (Mr. Nick and I), presenters (Mr. Nick and Mr. Dusty), and or participants (all of us).

This picture speaks volumes for the pack leaders. From our newest leader, Wolf Den Leader Mr. Charlie , to one of our longest-serving, now-in-his-5th-year-as-Den-Leader Mr. Dusty.  From Mr. Rob, new Assistant Cubmaster but long-time Pack leader, to Mr. Tim, Old Assistant Cubmaster. And of course the Pack Key 3. There truly is something for everyone at University of Scouting.

This year, UoS offered classes from Ranger Shea about the new Cub Scout program changes that have been 6 years in the making along with dozens of other topics for BSA leaders. My favorite was the lunchtime “Meet the Commissioners” session with Council Commissioner Kuruvila Mani and 7 other Council and District Commissioners including yours truly.

This was a day I will remember in my mind and heart forever and a group of people that will suffer the same fate. So great to see such genuine dedication to our Scouts and, through them, our country and the world.
